A prayer for the churches of the Baptist Union of Scotland

For God, who said, ‘Let light shine out of darkness,’ made his light shine in our hearts to give us the light of the knowledge of God’s glory displayed in the face of Christ.”
2 Corinthians 4:6 NIVUK

Our Father and our God, we come to adore you; and to thank you that you have called us, in your mercy, into eternal life and communion with you, through Jesus Christ our Lord; bringing the radiance of your glory into our lives.

This day, as our nation faces a future filled with uncertainty, we ask you for a fresh visitation of your Holy Spirit among us, that we might see people equipped to serve as bearers of hope and signs of your Kingdom’s presence to men, women and children around us.

We pray for our political leaders, the Prime minister of the UK and the First Minister of Scotland. We ask you to give them special wisdom and insight. We ask you to guide all our parliamentary representatives, through complexity and confusion, towards a path of justice and care for the poor; and release for those in bondage to the powers and principalities of this present Age; in these islands, in Europe and further afield.

We pray for your manifest grace among the peoples of our land and continent; and for those who would seek to come among us to find refuge, work and peace.

We ask you to take us, as a congregation of your people, together with the family of our Baptist Union and all others who confess Jesus Christ as Saviour and Lord, to be beacons of light; signs of meaningful, caring community; tokens of caring, compassion for others; and bearers of a presence that speaks of the redemption and new birth that comes through Jesus Christ alone. Enable us, through the workings of your Holy Spirit, to save and serve in Jesus name; that many may find righteousness, peace and joy in Jesus Christ in the months and years that lie ahead.

In His precious name we pray,
